Riley Stearn’s photo shoot video captures added

I made and uploaded 43 absolutely stunning captures from Riley Stearn’s photo shoot from this year (see 2 updates below for more info) – our girl looks fabulous! I really cannot wait for the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World promotion to begin! :)

Vote For Mary!

First off, I want to introduce myself as Miss-Winstead.com’s newest co-admin, Jessica. I am a huge Mary fan and always looking forward to the latest projects Mary has coming her way. I’m hoping that as the newest co-admin, I will be able to provide any new Mary news as quickly as I can and am looking forward to seeing what’s next for our favorite scream queen.

And moving onto news… Mary is among this year’s FHM’s ‘Sexiest Women in the World 2010′ competition! As a reminder, last year Mary placed #88 and with the upcoming ‘Scott Pilgrim VS. The World’ and ‘The Thing’ prequel in the works, there’s no reason we as fans should try to make her as close to the #1 spot as possible! Voting has already been going on for a few weeks now but fear not, you still have time to vote for Mary using your Facebook, Twitter, or FHM account. Every vote counts so let’s get to voting! Mary engaged?

Mary’s longtime boyfriend, Riley Stearns, has posted pictures and video footage of a photo shoot he did with Mary in LA’s Griffith Park – it looks great! Click here for the pictures and here for the video. In the album description, Riley wrote: “I wanted to try out my new zeiss 35mm lens. My fiance was happy to help. Enjoy!” I do not want to really speculate here, but if the two really are engaged I want to wish them all the happiness in the world and congrats to the happy couple! They are adorable and both very talented!

Edgar Wright Explains Where ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Movie And Comics Diverge

“Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” hits theaters this August, and though we have yet to see the first trailer for the film, early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive — giving fans of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic book series a lot to look forward to when Edgar Wright’s live-action adaptation finally arrives.
We already know the film will feature some significant, creator-endorsed differences from its source material, so when MTV News caught up with Wright (one of our “10 Filmmakers to Watch In 2010″), we picked his brain about where the books and film will part ways, story-wise.

“I think Bryan O’Malley is a very smart guy, and he can understand what an adaptation is,” said Wright. “He read every draft of [the script]. With the last draft, me and Michael Bacall sent him every 20 pages … and so he pretty much understood that doing a straight adaptation of the books was kind of impossible.”
“First, it’s a different medium,” he explained. “[O'Malley] totally understood how and why it had to be shaped into a movie structure.”
Despite necessary changes from the source material, Wright said there weren’t any elements of the series he regrets not filming or not finding a way to bring to the screen.
“There’s lots of bits that would look beautiful on the big screen, but I can’t think of anything where I thought, ‘I wish we would have done that,’” he said.
However, Wright did provide some details about where the two projects will part ways, story-wise, and the role O’Malley played in determining his character’s semi-new direction in the film.
“It stays pretty true to volumes one and two. And three,” explained Wright. “After three volumes, it starts to take its own path, but very much within the spirit of the book — and approved by Bryan as well. … There are some things that are in the film that are actually from Bryan’s original ideas before he wrote the books. [So] there are some things in there that refer to older ideas which he didn’t end up doing.” (Read more…)

Edgerton on Universal’s The Thing

It appears there’s still a lot of speculation running rampant about whether or not Universal’s The Thing, directed by Matthijs van Heijningen is a remake or a prequel. Cast member Joel Edgerton lays it out to What’s Playing by saying:

“Anyone who is a big fan of the John Carpenter version of The Thing knows that it starts on the American base station but the investigation of where the Thing has come from leads us to know something very bad has happened at the Norwegian base station and the prequel centres itself around there and what happened pre-Kurt Russell.”

Edgerton’s role? He plays the helicopter pilot and he joins leading lady Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Death Proof). Even though we were told shooting was to take place in Toronto, What’s Playing says the production is settling into Vancouver. We’ll know for sure soon enough. (Source)

Mary Elizabeth Winstead to Star in “The Thing”

Universal Pictures’ prequel to John Carpenter’s cult classic thriller The Thing is gearing up to begin shooing in Toronto in mid-March, and the studio has begun to announce the cast line-up. Heat Vision has learned that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Grindhouse, Scott Pilgrim) and Joel Edgerton (The Secret Life of Us, Kinky Boots) have been cast as the leads. We have a lot of information on both of their characters after the jump.

The screenplay, which was written by Ronald D. Moore, and rewritten by Eric Heisserer, tells the story of a shape-shifting alien terrorizes researchers at a Norwegian Antarctic facility. Here’s the logline:

In a remote Antarctica outpost, an alien spaceship is discovered far beneath the ice. When a group of ambitious scientists decide to thaw out one of the creatures inside, they’re in for the terrifying fight of their lives…

Winstead will play Kate Lloyd, who was described in the leaked casting breakdowns as follows:

pretty, bright-eyed, intelligent, she’s a graduate of Columbia and a Ph.D. candidate in paleontology (the study of prehistoric life). On the recommendation of her friend Adam Goodman, Kate is tapped for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by Dr. Sander Halvorson to join his research team in Antarctica, where an extraordinary discovery has been made. Upon arrival, Kate soon finds herself at odds with Halvorson about how best to proceed with the discovery — an alien spaceship with a mysterious and sinister frozen THING found nearby — specifically whether to transfer the specimen undisturbed to a more appropriate facility for analysis, or, per Halvorson’s wishes, to drill into the specimen’s ice encasement for a definitive tissue sample.

Matthijs Van Hejningen is set to direct. (Source)
